It has been a vision of mine to help more women of color not only have wonderful births, but also HEALTHY pregnancies, births, and babies. Statistically, Black women living in the USA are not receiving the care that they deserve.

In the United States, Black women are four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related cause than white women. They also have the highest rates of premature births. Black infants are 2.4 times more likely as white infants to die in their first year of life. Studies have shown that when people of color from any country immigrate to USA the risk of maternal death in childbirth increases for each year they spend in the United States.

When I learned about these statistics I knew I wanted to personally do something to make it better. I understand that a large cause is systemic racism. As a doula it is unlikely that I can fix this problem alone. My goal as a doula trainer is to help bring many more doulas into the communities that need them most. Offering a scholarship spot for Black women is one way I am trying to help. The other is helping connect students to Black doula trainers and pregnant people to Black doulas. If you are looking for a Black doula or doula trainer in your area please contact me and I will do my best to help you locate one.

I have partnered with The Grand Challenge to offer a scholarship at each of my trainings. My workshops are normally $450 but the scholarship recipient will attend at a cost of $55.

I ask that only people who plan on actively attending births and those who would not be able to attend the workshop otherwise apply.  We receive many applications and each one is carefully considered by a panel.  They look for passion for birth work, ability to serve the community and past actions of community support.

Please fill out the application form below.

If you would prefer to be trained by a Black doula trainer I highly recommend Birth Arts International trainer Kira Kimble (Scholarship is not valid for this training.)

Deadlines to Apply are 6 weeks before each doula training.
